How Accurate Is Calorie Tracking?

Calorie tracking is systematically less accurate than people assume. It is still the best tool available, provided you know where the errors come from.

People who understand the error sources use tracking well: as a consistent measuring stick that they adjust against real weight data. People who assume the numbers are exact end up baffled when 1500 logged calories does not produce the predicted loss.
